About
Taras Shevchenko National University Of Kyiv (KNU)
Established in 1834, is one of Ukraine’s most prominent and historic universities, combining a rich tradition with a forward-looking approach to education. Renamed in 1939 after Taras Shevchenko, a celebrated Ukrainian poet and national figure, KNU stands as a symbol of academic excellence and cultural heritage.
Located in central Kyiv, KNU’s campus features the iconic Red University Building, a national symbol of Ukrainian higher education. Behind it lies the A.V. Fomin Botanical Garden, renowned for housing one of the world’s tallest greenhouses. The Yellow Building, home to the Humanities Department, and the Maksymovych Library, the largest research library in Ukraine, further enrich the academic environment. The university also boasts an astronomical observatory, established in 1845.
With 13 faculties, eight institutes, a research center, and two colleges, KNU offers a broad spectrum of programs. Its international outlook is evident in partnerships with over 230 institutions globally and collaborations with more than 400 universities, providing students with diverse opportunities for academic exchange and research.

The university's alumni include influential leaders such as former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and world-renowned boxing champions Wladimir and Vitaly Klitschko.
